Back in September 2014 we wondered why in HR we spend so much time trying to predict the future. WHY AREN’T WE INVENTING IT OURSELVES?


The HR Game Changer conference ran concurrently

in Auckland, New Zealand and London in  the UK.


It kicked off a MOVEMENT to:


The HR Game Changer will continue to explore where the FUTURE is going and inspire thinking, tools and techniques for you to TRANSFORM what you deliver.


This is not your usual conference. Instead of the same old same old, you will hear from a variety of business innovators and game changers to take what’s on the cutting edge

and use that in your own area. You’ll deep dive into topics,

discussing ideas and sharing these with other attendees.

You’ll experiment, you’ll learn, you’ll have some fun.

If you are unable to attend and written notification is received by us 3 weeks in advance, you will receive a refund less a $100 cancellation fee. After that, no refunds will be issued. Stream 1 - Design Thinking and Agile Methodology: Since being introduced at the HR  Game Changer in 2015, several HR and Payroll teams are now using these. You’ll find out how and map how you could use these.

Stream 2 takes you on an adventure. People X is a learning simulation designed to teach you business skills in a whole new way. Come and experience a future way of learning and grow your business acumen!

The last part of the Game Changer is an open meeting think tank  to explore the challenges you face in your role, to share answers and ideas and map out a roadmap to changing the

                     game In your business and in the HR profession.

Lisa McCarthy, Founder  of .adiact NZ

Lisa is fascinated by the way leading edge organisations around the globe are able to achieve so much, with so little, so fast - and be a magnet for the very best and brightest talent.  Lisa created adiact to explore the factors that companies can use to make this happen.

She now collaborates with some of New Zealand's top Executive Coaches and Psychotherapists, CahootLearning, and the Stanford Center for Professional Development.

Lisa will be sharing the culture codes of the innovative organisations and how you can use this to develop your culture.

Michael Stevens, Director,Rainbow Tick NZ

Michael has a long history of involvement with New Zealand’s Rainbow communities. He been involved in adult education and training most of his working life in New Zealand and in teaching and business while living abroad.

The Rainbow Tick has changed the discussion around the LGBTI community in New Zealand and what inclusion is. Michael will be talking about how to create change and how to consider diversity and inclusion in your HR strategy.

Dr John Mervyn-Smith, Chief Psychologist,The GC Index

John has been assessing leadership capabilities, and coaching senior executives and their teams, for almost 30 years. His research, The DNA of a Game Changer and The DNA of a Game-Changing Team, focuses on the premise that organisations are neglecting the very talent, which has the potential to transform the future.

He has been a guest lecturer at the IOD, INSEAD and The Cranfield School of Management. He has a BSc and PhD in Psychology from London University, is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a founding member of the Division for Coaching Psychology and an APECS Accredited Executive Coach.

Amie McKinlay, Head of People & Culture, LottoNZ

Amie’s career has taken her from NZ to the UK to Hong Kong. Her HR career started as HR Admin/HR Advisor at Bank of New Zealand before she became a Solutions Consultant.

She then moved to the UK and worked for Thomson Reuters for several years as Senior HR Advisor, HR Implementation Partner and Global Sales Graduate Program Manager. In June 2013 she spent 18 months based in Hong Kong as HR Business Partner for North Asia.

For the last few years Amie has been Head of People & Culture at Lotto NZ and will talk about the innovative HR technology tools they have used to transform their culture.


Amie is now back in NZ heading up HR at Lotto NZ and will share her learnings from a global HR career!

Raoul Viljoen, Director, ShopX and PeopleX

Raoul is an entrepreneur with an engineering background and experience in multiple industries including Electrical Utilities, Manufacturing, Telecoms and Retail. The engineering pragmatism has influenced the design of the simulation to focus on measurable outcomes. His MBA specializing in entrepreneurship allows him to appreciate the creativity of business and ideas that add value but ultimately need to be sustainable and produce revenue to survive.

He  is the Director of the ShopX® and PeopleX simulations and will be running a PeopleX experience for HR people to build business acumen.


Lisa Bell, General Manager NZ, enableHR

Lisa is General Manager of enableHR New Zealand and is passionate about Human Resources technology and its application to support business strategy at all levels within the business. Lisa has wide experience working with organisations to maximise the value they can deliver both strategically and operationally with current and future technologies.

Ming Yee, Agile Practise Lead, Datacom NZ

Ming’s background includes software development and Agile roles at Assurity, Ubiquity, Christchurch City Council  and Tait  Communications.

Ming says he is a passionate, pragmatic agilist who believes in the power of people. He has been working with Payroll and HR teams who are using Agile Methodology and will now be sharing how Agile processes could work for HR and L&D  teams of the future.


Peter Harrison, Director, ThinkPlace

Peter says his purpose is to help individuals realise their potential for the benefit of themselves, their family and community.

As an expert in design thinking, design research, innovation strategy, strategic navigation, coaching and capability development, Peter works with government agencies to not-for-profit social service providers to large corporates who share a passion for creatively increasing the value they offer.

Peter presented at the HR Game Changer in 2015 and will be running our session on Design Thinking - what it is and how HR and learning teams are using this to transform what they  deliver.


Nathan Ott, Chief Executive, The GC Index

Nathan is Co-founder and CEO of The GC Index Ltd. He has helped thousands of leaders worldwide to change their game and transform their organisations by confronting challenges, disrupting traditional ways of approaching talent management and creating a simple model, which is effective and outcome driven.

He transforms organisations by using The GC Index® framework to help employees understand how they can make an impact and leaders create game-changing teams.


Nathan is also Director of e.g1, business insight and talent consultancy. Nathan holds a degree in International Business and Economics from the University of Westminster and Universitat d’Alacant respectively. Nathan will be joining us from London to talk about the secrets of game changing.


Matthew Jackson, Entrepreneur, Doctor2Go

Matthew’s first venture, Global Mode, brought Netflix to NZ early, was a catalyst for a 269% uptake in fibre broadband and merged the telco and media sectors. With his team, they reinvented this company to keep kids safe online. Their global network now supports over 15M Internet users in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and the Pacific Islands and processes about half of New Zealand's Internet traffic.


While learning about the future of work he recently spent a week working from a Bellagio hotel room in Las Vagas helping to develop a water product to aid Joesph Parker in retaining his heavyweight championship boxing title.

Andy Britten, Director, Coaching Pacific

Andy is a professional coach, a Chartered Accountant (FCA/UK and NZ ); was an audit partner with PwC, specialising in accounting for the environment, in managing risk and in inter and intra-personal skills building.


With Coaching Pacific he presents globally on coaching trends. Andy will be presenting on how companies are using neuroleadership in building capability.



Penelope Barton, Chief People Officer, Crimson

Penelope is the Chief People Officer at Crimson Consulting. She is a commercial, results driven HR professional, passionate about building high growth, scaleable organisations. Her HR career started with at Save the Children. She then spent several years as HR Manager for Chorus. In this role she co-led the people aspects of the Chorus/Telecom demerger - the largest Private Public Partnership initiative in NZ’s commercial history, turning Chorus into one of the top ten publicly listed companies in New Zealand.

She then worked in HR roles at Xero and Vend.


She is passionate about the future of work and how new technologies, AI and automation can help organisations and their people thrive and will be presenting on her experience at the cutting edge.

Angela Atkins, People & Learning Director, Elephant

Angela Atkins has been in HR and Learning roles for over 20 years. She is the co-founder of Elephant Group, a training and events company that now operates in New Zealand, the UK and is shortly launching in the USA.

Angela is the best selling author of the Bites books - Management Bites, Employment Bites, Training Bites and Safety Bites.

Angela came up with the HR Game Changer conference in 2014 to start a movement to look at transforming HR. She now presents around the world, and splits her time between NZ, the UK, California and Hawaii. Angela will be MC of the HR Game Changer and presenting on some of the most innovative business case studies.


Sussan Ockwell, CEO, Optimism

Sussan Ockwell is the founder and director of Optimism Learning Partners. For over 20 years, Optimism has partnered with NZ’s top corporates to develop their people capability – for current and future requirements. Optimism delivers this through the establishment of capability frameworks and learning strategies, as well as unique integrated and digital learning solutions which build required competence and confidence.

Brian de Gregory, HR Strategist, Jersey Initiatives

Growing up in New Jersey and starting my work life in New York City, Brian says that he learned very quickly the reality of corporate life in American and how one must devote their entire life and in some cases well-being in order to progress career wise.

Brian was working in a high-powered, corporate job that was exciting and engaging but was making him  sick from a combination of extended hours, unhealthy diet, little exercise and poor sleep. And so he transitioned from an Executive Vice President of Global Human Resources to teaching yoga and working with HR teams and businesses on HR technology, coaching and strategy to help them build more sustainable working. Brian will be MC of our HR Technology mini conference.
